This page came about for several reasons, all of which deal with the heartbreak of losing of a beloved pet.

We find ourselves stopping along side roads to assist injured animals that have been hit by traffic. We also find ourselves mourning the loss of those that have been hit and tragically killed. We then try to locate the owner and if we cannot, we carefully wrap the deceased animal, place the deceased animal off the road, and attach a note of condolence and that we had found the him/her and provide our contact information.

We have also experienced the loss and heartbreak of our own animal companions throughout our lives and feel offering Pet Loss Support is a necessary component in dealing with the loss of a loved one.

Apache "Tank"

Goodnight sweet boy. You are loved.

On 7/10/11, Apache's life was lost during a terrible storm that hit Northwoods Rescue. The above shows some of the damage to the barn, out buildings and grounds. The photo in the center is where Apache was struck by lighting and how he struggled to get up when I called for him as the worst part of the storm came barring down on us. It must have taken every ounce of strength he had to get on his feet only to fall as I risked my own life and came running to him. I will never forget that night for as long as I live and am
heartbroken that he couldn't be here
to share it with me.
-Elisa, Founder of NARS

Our hearts are heavy having lost such an incredibly kind and gentle soul. A truly magnificent horse. He was certainly a hero, a true gentle giant, a horse so sweet and caring, so careful and so full of joy. He filled our lives with happiness and it breaks our hearts to know he has been taken away from his little Snowy Nickers.

We feel blessed for having had him in our lives.
He will be missed and live forever in our hearts.

16+ hh of power & beauty. Born in 1998, a purebred chestnut Arabian gelding out of Butler Farms, NC, (

When this sweet boy moved he took your breath away.
(Apache was Snowy Nickers life companion.)

We would like to also dedicate the following poem to our Apache. A mirror image of the legend who came before him and will be remembered in the gentle strength and grace of those who follow.
Apache 1998-2011

A Mostly Padron Poem

written by Frances T. Butler - copyright 2003

The makings of a legend
In a colt
Whose beauty,
Like the desert moon
When full,
Can touch the soul.
A chestnut of so
Deep a hue, his coat,
When kissed by light,
Like rich mahogany;
Steel sheathed
In silk and satin finer
Then the richest Persian rug;
Mane tinged with red and gold;
Lightning lightly
Streaking down a face
Sculpted by a Master hand;
A stallion blessed with
Eyes like desert pools,
Dark with mystery,
Deep wells of kindness
That reveal a gentle soul;
Tight, strong body,
A study
In perfect symmetry,
Arch of neck reflected
In the carriage
Of his tail;
The poetry of motion
In every stride:
He floats on air,
Nostrils wide to taste the breeze.

The wind whispers
His lineage,
Pays homage to his line.
The past and the present
Of his breed
Are focused in his blood;
The promise of the future
Lies in his seed.

Life's Eternal Song

I hold you 'till Life's Breath is gone
I cry for all I'm worth
Even though I know we share a memory
Of you and I on Earth.

As I sit upon the windowsill
Looking out into the rain
There's still a brightness in the sky
That clears away the pain

As I look into the Heavens
I feel that you are gone
But I know that you are there with God
Singing Life's Eternal Song
